The small town of George is in many ways the gateway to the greater Garden Route area. Nestled at the feet of the Outeniqua Mountain, George itself is a picturesque, sleepy town. Golfers are especially spoilt in this area by a wide arrange of world-renowned courses between Mossel Bay and Plettenberg Bay. George is also the closest airport to the popular towns of Knysna, Groot Brak and Oudtshoorn.

The Garden Route climate is beautifully temperate. Summer kicks off in late October to early November and extends through to April and even May. The hottest months are February and March. February is generally a lovely time to visit as the weather is great, but the crowds between Christmas and Easter tend to be less.
June through August is winter time and while the temperatures seldom get close to freezing, it does tend to remain fairly wet and cool. March, April and August are historically the wettest months in the area.
